The Young Democrats of Georgia is the state’s official youth arm of the Democratic Party. Members of the organization strive to make a positive difference in the community by working within the political process and upholding the principles of the Democratic Party. The membership base reflects the broad diversity of Georgia and the party, including high school students, college students, young workers, professionals and families.

A lifelong Georgian, a graduate from the University of Georgia, and a rising member of the UGA School of Law class of 2020, Luke Boggs has benefited from Democratic programs like HOPE and Pell Grants that have made it possible for him to pursue his passion: public service. He already has an impressive record of political service, serving as Chief of Staff for GA State Representative Spencer Frye, the Executive Vice President of the Young Democrats of Georgia, and now as the President of the Young Democrats of Georgia.
Luke plans to leverage his opportunities and experience to help influence the issues most important to him; elevating political discourse, finding pragmatic solutions to problems facing his fellow Georgians, and advancing Democratic ideals in election reform, education, energy, and transportation.

Sharece Naomi Thomas

Sharece Naomi Thomas is your current Young Democrats of Georgia Secretary. She is a graduate of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School “AJMLS”. She served as the 2015-2016 Black Law Student Association “BLSA” President, and the National BLSA Editing Specialist.

She currently serves as the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys “GABWA”’s Newsletter Committee Co-Chair. Sharece also serves as the Young Democrats of Atlanta Social Chair.

Sharece assisted on Tom Brown for Congress’s campaign (2014), Hilary for Georgia and Hilary for Florida (2016), Mike Thurmond for Dekalb CEO (2016), Tom Perez and Michael Blake for DNC Chair and Co-Chair(2016), and Planned Parenthood Southeast GOTV (2016).

In 2015, Sharece also worked for Razor Solutions Group, a political fundraising firm, where she organized and assisted candidates in raising funds, and organizing fundraising events. In 2016, Sharece Naomi started her company, The Write To Freedom, LLC, to help young, and second career professions learn the art of good writing and persuasion.

Michelle Sanchez Jones

Michelle Jones is a fierce progressive advocate. Working as an organizer in the Georgia for Bernie campaign, Michelle ran for State House District 30 in 2016. Her campaign focused on better representing the people of her district, championing the concerns of the Latino community, environment, working class, and women.

She continues this advocacy within the Young Democrats of Georgia and hopes to harness the momentum of the growing progressive movement. Michelle has overcome many adversities. She is the daughter of a Nicaraguan immigrant displaced to the US by war. Her upbringing in DeKalb and Gwinnett county has made here a strong and fierce.

Later, juggling the responsibilities of a single mother, she excelled as an administrator in law offices, finding her niche in politics. Since moving to Hall County, she has been an active member of many community organizations: The Rotary Club, Vision 2030, and the Hall County Democratic Party where she has been elected as both a district and state committee member.

She now lives in Flowery Branch with her husband and three children where she serves on the PTA. Her philosophy is that through community involvement and grassroots progressive organization we can all move forward towards a future we can all believe in.

Mathew Plott

Mathew Plott grew up in Young Harris, GA but attended high school and college in Chattanooga, TN. While there, he took on a number of leadership rules within Democratic politics, including serving as College Democrats of Tennessee president and Tennessee Young Democrats national committeeman. Mathew has worked on a number of political races at the local, state, and federal level and managed two campaigns in 2014.

Plott returned to Georgia in 2015 to pursue a JD at Emory University School of Law. In addition to serving as Georgia Young Democrats national committeeman, Mathew is the current chair of Young Democrats of America’s Chapter Building Committee. Mathew is deeply committed to ensuring that local chapters, particularly here in Georgia, feel connected to Young Democrats of America.

Deja Frederick

Deja Frederick is an avid Atlanta, GA transplant with neighboring South Carolina roots. Her passion for business and culture led her to the capital and heart of Georgia upon finishing college 2 years ago.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communications and a Master’s of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from Winthrop University. She studied abroad in Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain while earning her MBA and was President of the university’s international business program, Enactus for 3 years.

Deja is currently the Commercial Effectiveness Sr. Coordinator for international hospitality company, IHG. With an affinity for brand consumer strategy, she focuses on creating compelling consumer experiences through integrated marketing approaches and operational programming all driven by the brand’s positioning and strategic vision.

Passionate about the intersection of business & politics, she began her political career in 2010 by interning for the South Carolina House of Representatives’ Democratic Caucus where she leveraged her PR and marketing background to write proposals, press releases & press kits, editorials, and web content for the Caucus. She is now the President of Cobb County Young Democrats of Georgia and working to launch her own strategic PR firm consulting on sociopolitical, business, and disruptive technology issues through an informed millennial lens.

Patrick Chappel

Patrick Chappel is a dedicated Democrat and high school activist. Patrick was born in Columbus, Georgia and currently is a junior at Columbus High School. Patrick has been involved with the Democratic Party throughout his life and served as a volunteer for the Hillary Clinton campaign and worked to organize high school volunteers for the Hillary campaign.

As the president of the Columbus High School Young Democrats, he has grown the chapter membership from 10 members to over 70. In addition to the Democratic Party, Patrick is involved in the Columbus High School Thespian Troupe. As the Chairman of the High School Democrats of Georgia, Patrick works to connect high school students to political leaders and foster civic, and party, engagement within high school students.

Jennifer Young

Jennifer Young A graduate of Georgia State University with a BA in English and MEd in Behavior and Learning Disabilities, Jennifer has focused much of her career on working with families and communities to empower young people through positive educational experiences.

Even as she progresses toward her PhD in Educational Policy Studies, Jennifer is committing her free time to working with local organizations such as the New Leaders Council, Dekalb Young Democrats, and The Georgia Appleseed Young Leaders Council.

It is with the experience that she has gained as first the Secretary and then President of the Dekalb Young Democrats that she moves into the role of Finance Chair of the Young Democrats of Georgia. By working to collaboratively set loftier yet attainable fundraising goals for each YD chapter across the state, Jennifer has every intention of raising the money needed to support candidates working to turn this wonderful state blue like never before.

Tamelonie Thomas

Tamelonie grew up in Adel, Georgia and graduated from Cook High School.  She attended Valdosta State University and will receive a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Business, Spanish and Journalism in May of 2017.

She is passionate about education, economic development and women’s rights. She is a member of the American Association of University Women and served as a delegate to the 2016 United State of Women conference in Washington DC. She serves on the board of Code Blue, a progressive grassroots organization, whose goal is to rebuild a progressive majority at the federal, state and local levels. She will be attending graduate school in the fall at Georgia Southern University.


For the 2017-2018 Term, Young Democrats of Georgia is embarking on a series of plans to help Democratic candidates, and promote Young Democratic involvement in politics. Amongst these programs are YDG University, the 2018 Campaign Plan, and the YDG Voter Registration and Activation Plan.
