Atlanta, GA — Possibly racially-charged killing, protesting, national unrest, repeat. In recent times, America’s issues with police brutality and systematic racism have become topics plastered on news headlines. Despite having gathered widespread sympathy, few substantive discussions have taken place.
Young Democrats of Georgia is joining forces with the Emerging 100 of Atlanta to open a discussion and provide useful insight into these issues that have crippled our nation by hosting a panel discussion by some of Atlanta’s most prominent community leaders. This is not just a discussion. It is a call to action. The event will take place on Thursday, July 21, 2016, from 6:30-8:00pm at IBEW Local 613 located at 501 Pulliam St. in Atlanta. All members of the community, regardless of political affiliation or lack thereof, are encouraged to attend. Panelists will include Assistant District Attorney Keith Lamar, Chairman of the NAACP of Georgia’s Political Action Executive Board Youth & College Division Kaj Gumbs, and others from the legal and political communities. Opening remarks will be given by Young Democrats of Georgia President Sarah Beeson and College Democrats of Georgia President Jake Orvis. Parking is free and ample. The event will be broadcast live on the Young Democrats of Georgia’s Facebook Page.
