Young Dems of UGA Have Some Advice on Recruiting New Members
The following was written by Bobby Andres, the Political Director for the UGA YD's, who has been active in our outreach efforts. Thanks- Louis Elrod FRESHMEN OUTREACH There are a number of factors that go into our current recruiting numbers. One factor is definitely the setting. The ability to set up a booth during freshmen orientation is incredibly helpful. There are 16 rounds of freshmen orientation, and at each one, the freshmen are sent to a Resource Fair, where several of the various colleges and organizations at the university are set up. Our booth consists of a simple display board, my laptop which runs a slideshow of pictures, a few Obama campaign signs, and our t-shirt from last year ("Now that's a nice piece of ..." with the picture of a donkey). This setting definitely helps with recruitment, given that we have access to, basically, the entire incoming class (at least if they pass by our booth). The table cost us $50 total for all the sessions, but we've already recouped that money and more by selling last year's leftover t-shirts to the freshmen. |
